James Taylor at the Hollywood Bowl

Last weekend the family and I went to the Hollywood Bowl to see a legend...James Taylor!

I've been listening to his music for ages ("Fire and Ice" is one of my favorite songs) and I was very excited to see him in concert.

Usually when you go to the Hollywood Bowl you bring a picnic with food and drink, but we just didn't have the time to put one together so decided to wing it when we got there.

My parents and sister decided on a BBQ stand just inside the entrance.

They all three got the pulled pork sandwich, and I was able to get a couple of bites...it was delicious!

My sister and I decided to split the Sangria which was massive (and a little pricey), but still a good treat for the night.

I didn't want BBQ so I headed over to another food stand and order a burger and fries.

Let me tell you...that burger was amazing! Cheese...bacon...and a delicious juicy burger patty.

The garlic fries were so good that I completely forgot to take a picture of them until they were almost gone.

Let this just be a testimony to how amazing the garlic fries are here.

If you've never been to the Hollywood Bowl then you don't know the awesome-ness of the surrounding area. Right in front of you is the Hollywood Sign and to the right in the distance is the Griffith Observatory.

It's an amazing sight!

We had an awesome time and James Taylor was so funny! I think it's really cool when you go to a concert and the performer entertains with both comedy and music.

"X" marks the spot!

The Hollywood Bowl hosts an awesome array of concerts from April to November, and every summer they host a special musical event. Last year I saw "Chicago" there with Samantha Bark, Ashlee Simpson, and it was directed by Brooke Shields. This year "Hair" is being performed.

It's a definite must see location in Los Angeles. Have fun!

P.S. Make sure you look into the park and ride option because parking looks like a nightmare.

Girl's Night at the Cheesecake Factory

( *Knock Knock Knock* Penny? *Knock Knock Knock* Penny? *Knock Knock Knock* Penny?)

So last week I met up with my favorite South African twins M and C for dinner and a movie aka Girls Night.

We have been friends since Sophomore year of  High School and I love hanging out with them. We decided to meet up at the Cheesecake Factory, which is one of my favorite places to eat.

My favorite drink there is the J.W. Pink Lemonade, so I got it to start with, while the girls got a Flying Gorilla.

M got the Tomato Basil Pasta which looked delicious!

While C got the Avocado Eggrolls (also delicious looking!).

I decided upon the Chicken Bellagio, which I first had when it was on a tester menu a few years ago in Baltimore, and it's been one of my favorites since then.

Two crispy chicken breast with prosciutto, pasta, and Parmesan cream sauce..yum!

An aerial view of an amazing meal!

I did not know until I lived in London that people believed the Cheesecake Factory was just fictitious restaurant in "The Big Bang Theory". I had a little giggle over that any time it was brought up! I've even been to the Cheesecake Factory in Pasadena.

After dinner we rushed off to see "A Million Ways to Die in the West" which was hilarious!

All in all a great night with the girls, and a pleasant break from work and life.

Rocking it out at RA Sushi

Last week I met my sister for dinner and there is one place that we love to meet up-RA Sushi!

They have amazing sushi and drinks, but what makes us love RA is their Happy Hour.

A lot of their most popular items are about half off, which makes this for a perfect after
work dinner spot!

I started off with a Baby Umami Punch which is my favorite drink at RA.

Of course every sushi meal should begin with some edamame (also on the Happy Hour menu!).

My favorite roll is the Tootsy Maki roll, and there is no sharing this roll! Both my sister and I have to get our own because they're so yummy.

I know it's not exciting, but I love the California Rolls at RA and I have to get them every time.

My sister loves their Viva Las Vegas roll and gets it every visit.

Here are some past Instagram pictures that I've post from RA

(Delicious Crunchy Shrimp Tempura!)

(I couldn't contain myself before taking this picture...see the half eaten Tootsy Maki?)

If you're looking for good sushi and a great Happy Hour then RA is an awesome choice!

It's a great atmosphere with great food and drink, and I would highly recommend you look them up right now and go tomorrow with friends.

Su Casa Mexicasa

As I said in the last post, I spent last weekend in Orange County with my family. I had to go to one of our favorite spots for dinner-Mexicasa.

My family has been going there for over two decades, and from what I've been told, it has not changed much over the years.

It's a small joint with a simple menu, but what draws us in every time is the consistently delicious food and good prices.

I've been getting the same thing at Mexicasa since the beginning of time...

a dry shredded beef burrito is my weakness.

Look at that delicious-ness! All that sauce and cheese...and it makes for great leftovers the next day at lunch.

If you have any leftovers that is...no shame if you don't!

Great-Grama D got a bean and cheese burrito...

...and Grama C got a taco and Chile Relleno.

If you're in the Anaheim area and you're looking for some good Mexican food for a good price then you should definitely check out Mexicasa. It's just 3 miles from Disneyland fyi...

It's tradition in our family that every Mexicasa meal ends with an Andes. This time wasn't any different!

Adventures at the California Science Center

I spent this past weekend with my Grandmothers in Orange County, and we had some major plans Saturday. A good hearty breakfast at Flappy Jack's was definitely in order!

It's located in Orange, and they have another location in Glendora. It's one of our favorite breakfast places in the area.

They have a massive menu with lots of options.

My favorite is the Egg and Meat Sandwich with a fried egg, ham, and avocado. I substituted the home-style potatoes for fresh fruit, which was a good choice. The fruit was amazing!

My Great-Grama D got the Bacon Waffles...

while my sister got the Bacon Pancakes. It was a tie between which one was better, but they both looked delicious to me!

My Grama C stuck with good old Ham and Eggs, which is always a good choice.

After having a filling breakfast we made our way to the California Science Center. My Great-Grama D worked for Rockwell who did work for NASA. She was very excited to see the Space Shuttle Endeavour.

We got our tickets and immediately made our way to the Space Shuttle.

It was a maze to get to the exhibit, but once we were there it was amazing.

They had removed parts from the Space Shuttle and had them on display with videos explaining their purpose and how they worked.

("Space Potty"...hehe!)

The Shuttle made an epic journey to LA and they had both pictures and video to show it.

Finally we arrived to the best part...the Space Shuttle Endeavour!

It was amazing! If you're in the area you should definitely check it out.

There was another exhibit at the Science Center that I had to see...

I've been to Pompeii and I saw the amazing exhibit at the British Museum last year so I was intrigued at what and how artifacts would be presented.

It was very similar to the British Museum's exhibition in that a Roman villa was replicated within the space.

The function of each room was explained with both audio guides and artifacts, which I found very fascinating.

I've been captivated by the history of Pompeii for years, and was really excited to be able to go to the actual site a few years ago.

This exhibition did a very good job of explaining common every day life in Ancient Pompeii to people who may have little knowledge on the subject (which should always be considered when planning an exhibition about a historical subject).

After a good day of exploring a good meal was needed and I knew exactly what I wanted..

Ye Olde King's Head!

Again it was delicious (as always) and another good day came to an end.
