Atlanta: Taste of Atlanta

Our lunch for the day had been decided weeks beforehand when we purchased tickets for Taste of Atlanta.

It was a really cool experience with some excellent food!

My friend's first purchase was for a pork taco, which I told was very good.

My first bit of food were these delicious lamb meatballs that were filled with flavor.

The one stall I had to go to was Flip Burger, which is "Top Chef" Richard Blais' Atlanta restaurant. Richard is my all-time favorite "Top Chef" contestant so I was so excited to try his food.

They were serving their Stack Burger, and while there was a little queue it was well worth the wait!

There was some local goodies to try (and I especially liked them because they were free!).

And Coca-Cola, a local delicacy, was there to give us all some refreshments.

It started to rain, and I became a bad blogger and stopped taking pictures of my food. Sorry!

Let me tell you though that everything was delicious, and even with the little sprinkle of rain I really enjoyed my time.

I spent my final day in Atlanta with my friend and her family enjoying their wonderful company. I can't wait to go back again and eat more of that delicious Southern food.

Atlanta: West Egg Cafe and Georgia Aquarium

For my only full day in Atlanta we needed to have a good start with a good breakfast.

My friend lives around the corner from West Egg Cafe and recommended it.

It's a cute place and it was busy. Thankfully we didn't have to wait too long, and I decided quick on what to eat.

I built my own biscuit with turkey sausage, cheddar cheese, scrambled egg with a side of gravy.

My friend got the black bean cakes and egg.

I couldn't get over the delicious food and the polite staff. Our waitress was so helpful and that always makes for an enjoyable visit.

After our breakfast we went to the Georgia Aquarium, which was not very far from the restaurant.

It was Sea Otter Awareness week so they had brightly colored treats to celebrate. (How cute are they?!)

That morning was so much fun with a fantastic breakfast and then a great adventure at the aquarium.

Atlanta: Mary Mac's Tearoom

My best friend lives in Atlanta, Georgia and I couldn't wait any longer to visit her. I went out for a couple days and I demanded good Southern food.

Our first stop was at Mary Mac's Tea Room, which has been operating since 1945.

Make sure to mention if it's your first visit! You'll get a complimentary cup of Pot Likker (the juice from cooked collard greens)...and it's delicious!

I wanted to eat as much Southern food as I could during my trip. I decided on the chicken & dumplings, a baked potato, and macaroni & cheese.

The chicken & dumplings was some of the best that I have ever had!

My friend got the fried green tomatoes, Hoppin' John, spiced apples, and cheese grits.

Mary Mac's gave me the best beginning to such a fun weekend, and I will be telling everyone about it!

Good Eats at Umami Burger

My sister and I had been wanting to go to Umami Burger for ages. We finally took the opportunity to go in July when we saw Phantom of the Opera in Hollywood.

You maybe asking: "Why wait this long to post about your visit?" I wish I could give you a good reason, but there just isn't one. I did think that even though it's been a couple of months, I should still share about the delicious food we ate.

The Hollywood location is a few blocks South of the famous Hollywood Boulevard and tucked into a cute little spot with small boutiques surrounding it.

After browsing the menu we quickly decided on our choices.

I choose the Cali burger while my sister choose the truffle burger (not pictured). We also decided to share the truffle fries.

About those truffle fries...just look at them! Perfection!

You're given some dipping sauces for your burger and sides. I would highly recommend the garlic aioli especially with the truffle fries.

My sister was very excited for the dessert. There were Cool Haus ice cream sandwiches for dessert and we settled on the chocolate cookie with mint chocolate chip ice cream.

We had a great time eating at Umami Burger. The waiting staff was very friendly and helpful.

If you're craving delicious burgers and a great dining experience then I would highly recommend going to Umami Burger.

Dinner at El Patron

One of the best parts of moving is finding new eats in your area.

When I asked about good Mexican food, my roommate recommend El Patron in Reseda.

It's really the best place to go on a Friday night to celebrate the weekend!

The margaritas are massive, and excellent in both taste and cost.

We started with the classic chips and salsa, but quickly moved on to some delicious starters.

We ordered Esquites (corn with a chili-lime aioli) and La Papa (spiral cut potato chips).

It may not look like much, but the La Papa was probably my favorite part of the meal. The potato was cooked perfectly, and it had so much flavor. It became even better after dipping it into the garlic-lime aioli. I soon became addicted!

Try to go on a Friday night since they have a Mariachi band to serenade the diners.

They came right up to our table and played the most beautiful songs. I was laughing and dancing in my seat.

For my main, I order the steak fajitas. It's one of my favorite Mexican dishes and these did not disappoint!

My roommate and I had a great night eating and dancing. I would highly recommend a visit to El Patron and make sure you try La Papa!

Dinner at Union on Yale

About a month ago, my friends and I met up at Union on Yale for dinner. It's a restaurant in Claremont about forty miles outside of LA.

We were really lucky that the weather was nice enough to sit outside (the inside was very loud and crazy with people). The patio was so beautiful and lit up with fairy lights.

I did have a cocktail at the bar while waiting for everyone to arrive, but forgot to get a photo of it (bad blogger!). It wasn't very good so I decided to have a nice pot of tea with my dinner.

The menu was a bit pricey, but thankfully two of my friends and I decided to split a starter and main.

We decided on the Gnudi which is a potato and cheese dumpling. Delicious!

For our main we went with the P.O.W (Pizza of the Week). There was apple slices, caramelized onions, cheese and prosciutto pieces.

The food was delicious and the company was great!

It was a great start to the weekend.

Birthday Weekend in San Diego (Safari Park & Sea World)

I don't know about you, but life has been very busy for me! I got a new job and moved into a new place...whew!

I recently celebrated my 25th birthday back in May. The whole family decided to take a trip to San Diego.

Our first stop was to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

I hadn't been to the Safari Park since I was eleven so I was really excited to see it again.

Since Sarah was being so adventurous I decided to be as well!

We hopped onto our Safari caravan and went for a drive.

And look who came out to visit!

"Hello Tourist!"

We didn't stay very long at the Safari Park as it started raining and got very busy with small children. We left around lunch time and enjoyed a delicious lunch at The Cheesecake Factory.

The next day we went to Sea World, which I was very excited for as I had not been there since I was nine.

I wanted to make the most out of the trip so I decided to do and see everything (including the scary rides)!

Of course we had to see the Dolphin Show which was very entertaining,

My family went to Sea World without me while I was in Grad School and all I heard about was the Dog and Cat Show. (I know! Who would've thought?!)

Let me tell you...the Dog & Cat Show? Amazing!!

It's also more than just dogs and cats...pigs and kangaroos and birds...it was amazing.

I know there is controversy surrounding Sea World (we did not attend the Orca Show on purpose), but they do encourage learning about different animals as well as rescuing and healing hurt or stranded animals.

Of course my favorite were the penguins!!

The Sea Lion and Otter Show was another must see! The "opening act" was hilarious and kept us entertained until the show started.

Sea World is just a great place for families and basically anyone who wants to have fun while learning at the same time.

FYI...I would highly recommend getting the All-Day Dinning Pass. If you plan your day right you can get full use out of it (ie: first breakfast, second breakfast, first lunch, second lunch, first dinner, second dinner and so on).

With this great start I think 25 will be an excellent year.
